My tom-boy days!

Growing up, I was never the girliest girl in the classroom, if anything I could probably or most definitely be described as one of the guys (or boys, as I was still very young). Most of my childhood, involved me living in army camps with, at the time, my three little brothers (of course that number has risen since then to 5 baby brothers) and back then I guess it is safe to say we was close. Living in an army camp meant tanks, woods and running around making secret little dens and playing army with the other army children. I spent most of my days scrapping my knees, climing trees and running around the woods looking for toads and snakes with my brothers and our friends. I even went to the beach one day with an army camouflage vest and sport shorts with a mega short bob, I definitely fitted the description of a typical Tom-boy, doing make up and wearing pretty little dresses was most definitley not my thing! So of course, it makes sense that at the age of 18 almost 19, I am terrible at doing make up.

My tom-boy days have definitley come to halt. At the start of secondary school I was still slightly boyish, left my hair looking messy and never styled it, refused to wear make up and wore bootcut school trousers to school every day. I guess the longer I was at school, the girlier I got, I eventually starting wearing skirts to school and doing my hair really nice. Infact, the first day I wore a skirt to school every one blew up. Everyone seemed so shocked and kept mentioning it to me as if It was the biggest thing ever to happen. By year 10 I started curlying my hair, doing foundation and loved going for a girly natural look (simply because it was the only look I could do), whilst wearing pretty dresses and flowery tops all summer.

Thinking about it now, I have definitly changed since I was that little girl playing army in the woods. I have learnt so many cute hairtyles and love curling my hair (though I wish it grow longer and faster, really miss my long blonde locks). I hate going out without makeup and own a total of 27 dresses (with only four pairs of jeans). However, I still struggle to do amazing makeup that most girls my age can do. I have watched so many youtbe tutorials on how to do smokey eye shadow and perfectly straight eyeliner. Infact, I even tried doing eyeline before my lectures today and it was a total fail. It doesnt help that my mum isn`t exactly girly either, of course my mum is far from being a tom-boy but she never learnt to do make up and at times I do wish that I had a sister who could teach me these things.

How it is possible to have perfect make up and look completely amazing? I had tried so many times and refuse to give up. one day I plan to be able to do these things, though at this rate I reckon I will be at least 40 before I know how to do it. Until then, I will stick with the pink or nautral look and continue to wear my many dresses. But, even with my girly side, my tomboyish past will always be apart of me. I will always enjoy walking through the woods and wearing the occasion boyfriend jeans and baggy shirt or climb trees with my youngest baby brothers. That will always be a part of me despite the makeup.

Stephanie,

xoxo
